Americans should have the right to good healthcare. In fact, I think everyone should have the right to good healthcare. However, many individuals think that they have the right to have health insurance, which in fact, is debatable.
So, what is the difference? Healthcare is the actual administration by providers and facilities to help us be healthy, stay healthy or get healthy. Health insurance is the way these services are paid for. I know, and you probably do too, that most people need health insurance to help offset the costs of healthcare.
The problem, as I see it, is that single-minded belief that health insurance is a right, when in fact it is a benefit. It is important to understand your health insurance benefit, and know that casual and unnecessary use of your health insurance results in higher premiums. If you are on your employer's health plan, the over use of your insurance can impact the rates that your employer and fellow employees have to pay as well. In these tough economic times, more expense to your employer could lead to his inability to continue to provide coverage. If everyone would strive to be a wise healthcare consumer and use their health insurance benefit wisely, I believe that we could collectively lower the cost of healthcare and reduce the costs to purchase health insurance.
